"Submerged Welcoming" is a captivating installation that forms part of the larger project, "Sinking, Mrs. XX Welcomes You." This project intertwines the themes of family social interaction and women's psychological activities in household affairs through the eyes of a fictitious character, Mrs. XX. The installation serves as a preface to the project, inviting audiences to enter into the emotional environment that Mrs. XX inhabits.
Through this installation, viewers are submerged into a surreal underwater world where they are greeted by Mrs. XX, who beckons them into her imaginative space, which serves as an introduction and bridge to the first chapter, “Imagined Kitchen”. Using a combination of sound, light, and mixed media elements, "Submerged Welcoming" invites the audience to explore their own emotions and confront the anxieties and fears that arise from social expectations and gender roles. This installation also invites the audience to participate in a surreal journey and ponder upon the inner worlds we often keep hidden.
