REFLECTIONS after visiting Danica Lundy’s „Boombox” solo show at the White Cube.

I know, I know I should pay more attention to smaller galleries and shows, but I really wanted to see Danica Lundy’s work in the real world. For some reason, her works do not fit the image of this gallery for me. Her work is so intimate, so bodily, so different from anything I have seen. I imagine myself in her body as she imagines the inside of her body. I imagine the bones, the flesh, and the void, while they imagine all the parts of the body separately.

Her mind goes through things – objects, time frames, events. There is chaos in her paintings, but also repeated symbols and references. When I look at her work, I feel so ordinary. I feel as if my eyes, heart and mind are closed to everything that is happening around me.

White walls would have showcased her work very nicely without any distractions, but I wouldn’t say I liked it in that space. The White Cube Mason’s Yard still seems like a bunker to me. Her works should not be trapped underground. They shouldn’t be part of the entire Art World Game, of which White Cube is undoubtedly a part. Having them represent her work is a massive recognition of her talent, which I totally agree with, but... I don’t know. He looks at the world so differently that I wouldn’t want to dirty it.

The exhibition is open until June 29, 2024.
